Your child can choose to compete in as many or as few events as he or she wants. Multiple events are offered at all meets. In order to compete at the National Championship a participant must meet the qualifying standard for each event that they compete in. Qualifying standards can be found starting on page 58 in the rulebook on the WSUSA website.
At the end of the season, hundreds of kids gather together from across the country at the NJDC, which take place in a different city each year. This provides a unique opportunity for kids to compete and also socialize with other kids just like themselves. As an individual who has worked in the disability community for over 10 years and as a coach, some of my favorite moments have happened while attending these games. It can be a life-changing event for many of these young athletes.
