Blow Bubbles
- Have your child:
- Blow air (not in the water)
- Blow a small ball
- Feel or see your blown bubbles
- Make a motor boat sound
- At bare minimum just get them to close their lips. Remember, some kids with cerebral palsy have enhanced gag reflexes.
Splash Hands, Reach, and Pull
- Have your child:
- Give you high five’s
- Hit a ball with alternating arms
- Scoop “ice cream” or “sand,” aka, dig in the water
- Count the hands as they reach
- If necessary, try breaststroke (two hands at same time) for those with more involved coordination issues
Kick Feet on Back and Belly
- Have your child make his or her feet splash
- While on their backs, have him or her watch their feet kick
