Information Specialist

Sheila Swann-Guerrero works as an Information Specialist at the National Center on Physical Activity and Disability. Ms. Swann-Guerrero responds to consumer requests, presents on physical activity, wellness, adapted aquatics and Therapeutic Recreation topics at various conferences, and collaborates with agencies for the promotion of active leisure lifestyles for individuals of all abilities. She is Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, who has worked with children, teens and adults in both clinical and community settings for more than twenty years. As a CTRS, she has coached sports for the National Disability Sports Alliance and Special Olympics, directed day camps, provided community recreation school programs, inclusive programs and programs specifically designed for individuals with disabilities. Her background includes, chronic conditions, rehabilitation, sports and community based recreation. Ms. Swann-Guerrero is president elect for the Illinois Recreation Therapy Association and will become president of ILRTA in 2007. In addition, Ms. Swann-Guerrero coordinates Sibshops or Sibling Support Programs for siblings of brothers and sisters with a disability or chronic condition. She works with siblings and their families to promote wellness for the entire family.
