Principle Investigator, RIC

    Mitchell Carr, M.S.Ed. received his B.S. in Sports Medicine from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, OH in 1997. He went on to receive his M.S.Ed. in Exercise physiology from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio in 1998.

    Mitch has been working in the field of Health and Fitness for 7 years and has spent the last 5 years at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He has worked on various research projects concerning exercise and disabilities, most recently on a 5 year project that concentrated on physiological affects of exercise on stroke survivors. His first publication entitled the “Physiological affects on Stroke Survivors from an Exercise Program” was published in the winter 2003 edition of Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation.

    Mitch is currently the Manager of Fitness Services at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. This program is a community service program at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago that offers an accessible gym at no cost to a person with a physical disability. He was also recently voted as Co-Chairman of Mayor Daley’s Fitness Council, whose citywide goal is to get people more active in Chicago and reduce obesity rates in the city.

    As Principle Investigator of the RIC component of The National Center on Physical Activity and Disability (NCPAD) Mitch will develop and coordinate the production of exercise modules that will be made into exercise videos and quick series books for the disabled. He will also lead the RIC team in the overall goal of educating the community on exercise and disability.
