Abstract by: Jeremy Karger

Hicks, A.L., et al. (2003). Long-term exercise training in persons with spinal cord injury: effects on strength, arm ergometry performance and psychological well-being. Spinal Cord, 41, 34-43.

Purpose

As people with spinal cord injury are living longer, an emphasis is being placed on increasing independence and overall quality of life. Improvements in both areas can be achieved through physical activity. Not only can exercise increase functional independence, but it can also reduce the risk for coronary artery disease associated with the inactivity of people with spinal cord injury.
