Notes

The Donald Danforth Jr. Wilderness Retreat is a week long organized outdoor experience, held at Wonderland Camp in Rocky Mount, Missouri and is designed to build the self-esteem of persons with brain injury and provide respite for the families of the survivor. Activities such as swimming, boating, fishing, arts & crafts, sports, games and miniature golf are adapted to the abilities of the individual. The need for a camp like this was determined through discussions with many families coping with the changes in their life following a head injury. For the survivor there is a need to rebuild their self confidence to begin to learn how to overcome new obstacles and create a new life for themselves. For the caregivers respite from daily responsibilities and care of their loved one is occasionally needed. The Donald Danforth Jr. Wilderness Retreat is dedicated to assist both the caregivers and survivors in this goal.
