Notes

Project ASTRIDE is an all-volunteer, non-profit program serving adults with developmental, physical or sensory challenges. The program serves individuals in St. Cloud and Central Minnesota. Enrollment is open to anyone with physician's permission, with exclusions to those of a body weight or size beyond the carrying capacity of the horse used in the program at the time of classes, or to those who present a physical danger to the horse or others due to behavior.

Project ASTRIDE is a North American Riding for the Handicapped Association Accredited Riding Center. All riding and horse related experiences are supervised by experienced Advanced and Registered NARHA Certified Instructors. This helps to ensure a safe and quality experience. Each Participant is initially assigned two trained sidewalkers and one horse handler. Each one hour lesson features activities on and off the participant's assigned horse. The off horse activities consist of grooming, tacking and tactile experiences. The on horse portion of the lesson is initiated by mounting from a specially designed mounting ramp and is continued in an indoor arena setting. During lessons, the participants learn new skills, practice skills, and participate in group exercises and games. Each session is typically eight weeks long. Each year, three sessions are held and classes are offered four evenings per week.
