Description
  • The Canadian Deaf Sports Association (CDSA) was established in 1963, and was the first Canadian Sports Organization for the Disabled. Founded as the "Federation of Silent Sports of Canada" and incorporated in 1964, its name changed to "Canadian Deaf Sports Association" in 1985.

CDSA promotes and facilitates fitness, amateur sports and recreation among Deaf Canadians of all ages from the local recreational to Olympics level.

With the assistance of Provincial and National Deaf Sports Organizations, CDSA supports Deaf athletes who have the talent for participating in National and International competitions such as World Games for the Deaf, and at all levels of ability. CDSA encourages development and affiliation of Deaf sports organizations across Canada that offer training programs and competitions of all kinds.

Brought together in sport by their culture and means of communication (sign language), Deaf people personify the highest Olympic goals in the celebration of world community and sportsmanship.

CDSA is currently and actively affiliated with the Comit International des Sports des Sourds (CISS).

The International Olympic Committee officially recognizes CISS as the only Federation responsible for administrating all sporting events involving the Deaf.
